Seahawks updated playoff scenario prior to Chiefs game
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks have an easy path to the playoffs. But what if Seattle doesn’t take the easy path to the postseason?
The Seahawks need just one win to make the playoffs. If Seattle beats the Chiefs on Sunday night football in week 16, they are in the playoffs. If the lose on Sunday but then beat the dreadful Arizona Cardinals in week 17 at CenturyLink, Seattle still makes the playoffs.
The sad part is that all Seattle had to do is beat the 49ers last week and any drama for getting to the postseason would have ended. The Seahawks loss to San Francisco in week 15 simply gave hope to several teams and gave a sense of doom to 12s.
Seattle got good news on Saturday when the professional football team of Washington, D.C. lost. This means Seattle would just have to win on Sunday. So the Washington team is cooked. Seattle is only really battling the Eagles for the final playoff spot now.
Philadelphia, though, defeated the Texans on Sunday. This forces Seattle to win another game. The Seahawks winning another game should be a given since Seattle finishes with both of their last two games at home.
One could make the easy argument that should Seattle lose their last three games of 2018 after having a clear chance at the postseason that they don’t really deserve to make the playoffs. This argument is easy and true.
But I cannot fathom the Seahawks losing to the Cardinals in week 17 so I assume they will be in the playoffs. If they don’t win, the Washington versus Eagles game in week 17 becomes massive. Currently, Washington and Philadelphia play at 10 am PT next Sunday. It wouldn’t be surprising if the NFL changed the time to the same time as Seattle’s game so that the drama is built.
If Seattle wins one of their final two games, they are in the playoffs. If they lose both games, Seattle needs the Eagles to lose to Washington next week. It’s pretty simple.
