Seattle Seahawks: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all time
By Lee Vowell
While Gray and Tobeck were busy blocking for Matt Hasselbeck, Hasselbeck was busy many times throwing the ball to Bobby Engram. Engram played for the Chicago Bears for five years before signing with the Seahawks for the 2001 season. Engram then spent the next eight years becoming one of the best receivers in Seattle history.
In 2007, Engram broke the Seahawks record for receptions in a season with 94. This still stands, but was tied by Doug Baldwin in 2016. And Baldwin and Engram are quite alike.
Both receivers stand at 5-foot-10. Baldwin plays at 195 pounds and Engram played at 190. Both used intelligence and quickness to get open. Before the was Baldwin, there was Engram.
Engram currently has the sixth most receptions (399) in Seahawks history, the fifth most yards receiving (4,859), the ninth most touchdown passes caught. After the 2008 season, Engram left Seattle play with the Kansas City Chiefs. He retired a year after leaving the Seahawks.
The former receiver is known since his retirement for his community work, like The Home Depot’s NFL Neighborhood MVP program. Engram is currently the tight ends coach of the Baltimore Ravens. He coached the Ravens’ receivers prior to that.
