Frank Clark

This one is almost too obvious. Trading Frank Clark for not one but two high draft picks is a possibility. Maybe getting two first round picks for Clark is out of the question, but a one and a three would make sense. Clark being expendable can be blamed on the contract the Cowboys gave DeMarcus Lawrence.

The Seahawks placed the franchise tag on Clark for this coming year as they were not able to work out a long-term deal with their edge rusher. Clark is worthy of a lot of money and will eventually get paid one way or the other. Hopefully, Seattle is the team that gives Clark lots of money. But if not, Clark could bring back in a trade some players who would help the team for several seasons to come.

Edge rushers may be the singular most important position in football other than those players that edge rushers are trying to feast on, quarterbacks. Clark likes to eat and he eats well. The problem is that Seattle cannot afford – nearly literally – to not work out a deal with Clark now. In 2020, Clark will be a free agent again but so will Wilson, Jarran Reed and Bobby Wagner. For the long-term financial health of the team, one of the four players mentioned in this paragraph will not be able to sign mega-deals.

I hope Clark doesn’t get traded. Nor do I think or hope Wilson will. But in today’s NFL, teams must make sacrifices for long-term goals. Seattle has four picks in this month’s draft and needs more. Trading players is a good way to get back multiple draft choices.
