There is always news surrounding the Seahawks. The week ending April 13th was nothing different and here is some of it.

The Seahawks will being voluntary offseason workouts starting April 15th. This is also the “deadline” that Russell Wilson’s agent has given Seattle for getting Wilson to sign an extension prior to the 2019 season. But let’s forget the Wilson situation for a minute and focus on some real kind of news surrounding Seattle football this past week.

Seahawks learn their preseason schedule

Seattle learned who they will be playing in the preseason this past week. They will open at CenturyLink Field against the Denver Broncos sometime between August 8th and 11th. Two of the actual dates of Seattle’s preseason schedule will not be finalized until the NFL announces its schedule before the NFL Draft this month.

Seattle will then travel to play the Vikings on August 18th. That game will be national televised and will occur on August 18th at 5 p.m. PT. The Seahawks will also travel for their third preseason game, this one against the Chargers in Los Angeles between August 22nd and 25th.

In the final and most meaningless game of the preseason Seattle will play the Raiders at CenturyLink. This will be the 14th straight preseason the teams will have played each other. The game will take place on August 29th. Fourth preseason games usually have very few presumed starters playing and those starters that do play usually see few snaps. No team wants to take the chance of having their key players get injured in an exhibition game one week before the real season begins.

All of Seattle’s preseason games will be played on FOX.

Jon Ryan returns to his homeland and might play in the CFL

For 10 seasons Jon Ryan was the punter in Seattle. His fake punt in the 2014 NFC Championship game against the Packers helped jump start an incredible comeback that resulted in the Seahawks moving on to play in the Super Bowl.

Michael Dickson beat Ryan out of the punter job in Seattle in 2018, though, and Ryan didn’t play for anyone last season. According to reports Ryan not playing could change in 2019. He tried out for the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday. I have no word on how he did. Ryan was always a good guy in the Seattle community, though, so I am hoping he gets a job somewhere and performs at a high level.
