Monday, April 15th is the deadline Russell Wilson’s agent has set for the Seahawks for contract extension negotiations. One NFL reporter says he thinks Wilson wants out of Seattle.

Maybe there is some truth to this talk of Russell Wilson wanting out of Seattle? According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, a source within the league has told him that the Seahawks seem to think Wilson wants to play elsewhere. Wilson has never said he wants to publicly himself. But lots of people have been saying it for him.

As far as Seahawks news nationally, there are only two things to really discuss at the moment: Draft needs and Russell Wilson. Logically, 12s know that Wilson isn’t going anywhere and will stay in Seattle for two or three more seasons at least, probably more. But Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, putting a deadline on any talk between Wilson and the Seattle brass of a contract extension negotiation made a logical situation an emotional one. At least for 12s it did.

So far, there hasn’t been a lot heard about whether Seattle and Wilson are even talking. Maybe they are and maybe they are not. I don’t know much but I do know there is little chance of a contract extension being announced with Wilson prior to the end of the day on Monday.

Wilson’s contract isn’t up until after the 2019 season. If no extension is signed, Seattle will simply put the franchise tag on their quarterback. They could do that for 2020 and again in 2021. This isn’t bad for Wilson, really, because the amount he would get [aid would be the average of the five highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. That means, Wilson is going to get a lot of money. And he will get the money whether he gets franchise tagged or extended by Seattle.

Possibly Wilson would rather to move to new York. His wife, Ciara, is a entertainment star, of course, and maybe New York would be good for her career. But being in Seattle is good for Wilson’s career, especially financially. I am sure Wilson and his wife didn’t simply wake up one day recently thinking, “Wait! We are in Seattle? We should move to New York so we can make some more money.” Russell and Ciara knew where they were going to be living when they got married.

Plus, Wilson plays football for six months out of the calendar year. The other six months could be spent in New York. People seem to overlook this simple fact. Basically, everything, good and bad, that we read about what Wilson is thinking or not thinking is simply part of contract negotiations right now. No one really knows what Wilson’s Seahawk future is other than Wilson, his wife, his agent and John Schneider and Pete Carroll. The rest is just noise.
