The Seahawks have solid options in the third round

The first two players I’ve listed almost certainly won’t be drafted until the third round, if not the fourth. Obviously, the consensus is they don’t stack up quite as well as the tackles expected to go sooner. Let’s not forget that many of the Seahawks best players weren’t taken in the first two rounds (Russell Wilson), the first six rounds (Chris Carson), or drafted at all (Doug Baldwin). So let’s take a look at the first two likely suspects.

Renell Wren, Arizona State. 6’5″, 318 pounds. Wren took his time to get his game together at the college level, as he only had four starts before his senior season. Even as a senior his stats aren’t exactly eye-opening. 4.5 tackles for a loss and one sack in 13 starts is not going to make NFL scouts get too excited. But when you realize he was playing at nose tackle, things become a bit rosier. He has the size and quickness to slide over to the three-technique as a pro. As you can see by his rankings, there’s a lot of disagreement over just how successful he will be at making this move.

Gerald Willis, Miami. 6’2″, 302 pounds. Much like Wren, Willis took a lot of time to show his talent on the field. After getting dismissed from the Florida Gators, he landed further south with the Hurricanes. He still didn’t put it all together until his senior season. He had 18 tackles for a loss and four sacks. Like Wren, he’s a physical specimen that has some work to do to hone his technique. According to a lot of scouts, he has considerable work ahead of him. Hence the average draft position in the third round.
