As expected, the Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray number one overall but the Seahawks defense will remain unfazed by his talent.

The Seahawks’ NFC West is now made up of Russell Wilson, Jared Goff, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Kyler Murray. This certainly brings a whole new quarterback talent to the division. During the pre-draft process, Murray drew numerous comparisons to Wilson because of their size and similar playing style. Both have a good arm and can extend plays on their feet.

Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks can now look forward to facing Murray and the Cardinals twice a year. Many were surprised when rumors began swirling around that the Cardinals were going to be quick on giving up on one-year-starter, Josh Rosen. This leaves a major adjustment to be made on the defensive side of the ball within the NFC West.

Kyler Murray will be the fastest and most elusiveness quarterback the Seahawks have faced, probably ever. He’s really going to test their pass rush ability because of how poised he is in the pocket.

Having watched their own quarterback play, and even facing off against him in practice, the Seahawk’s biggest priority will be keeping Murray in the pocket.

This off-season, the Seahawks should focus on ways to improve their defense that will benefit them when facing Murray and the Cardinals. First, they need to penetrate the pocket. With players like Jarran Reed and rising star, Poona Ford, they should have no problem doing so.

Second, they need to sharpen their tackling skills. Last season, there were a lot of poor or missed tackles that aren’t going to go well against a quarterback as skilled as Murray.

Lastly, they need to keep that same old Seahawks championship mindset that leaves their defense relentless. If they can do this, Kyler Murray shouldn’t faze them one bit in 2019 and beyond.
