The Seahawks followed up draft weekend by hosting several unsigned free agents and hosting their new draftees in rookie mini-camp. Here is some of the Seahawks fit to read from last week.

The Seahawks news never really stops. Vacations may be taken and rest time afforded to all 12s, but the NFL doesn’t stop. This week in Seattle professional football news, several unsigned free agents visited the Emerald City and the team hosted their recently drafted players for a rookie mini-camp.

Visitors from afar

The Seahawks need pass rushing help badly. The team did add L.J. Collier in the draft and have Jacob Martin and Rasheem Green and others returning. But there is no doubt Seattle needs some veterans to be added to the roster.

This week Seattle reportedly hosted free agents Ziggy Ansah and Shane Ray, to name two. Ansah is a promising player if he can stay healthy. He has produced two different seasons in his career of 12-plus sacks each. But he gets hurt a lot too. If he can stay healthy, he would go a long way towards replacing the production of traded Frank Clark.

Ray, like Ansah, gets hurt a ton. In the last two seasons, he has just 2 sacks alone. He would not be considered a big signing, even if he has a lot of potential. Injuries and lack of production have made signing Ray of low importance. If Seattle can get him at a good price, fine. If not, let him go elsewhere.

Rookies go to camp

Seattle hosted its drafted rookies and the undrafted free agents that the Seahawks signed after the 2019 NFL draft was over. There were 12 undrafted free agents in camp. These players shouldn’t be overlooked, though, as several recently important Seahawks have went undrafted, like Doug Baldwin.

Seattle also gave out numbers to all rookies.

Finally, coach Pete Carroll seemed really impressed with his rookie group. Of course, Carroll loves to teach young players and is almost always excited about a new class of Seahawks. The question will become just how quickly the rookies learn the Seattle way. The most important rookies will be those that can help tackle the opposing quarterback just before he throws the ball. Hopefully, Collier and his ilk will learn to become warriors fast.
