100 days of Seahawks: The best number 93 is a two-way tie

The Seahawks have not had a lot of success with players wearing the number 93. But there are two who merit recognition of being pretty good in Seattle.

That’s right. I said “pretty good” above. That’s a sterling review of any Seahawks player, right? The fact is that the players who wore number 93 in Seattle haven’t been great for any length of time. But with 93 days to go until Seattle’s first game of 2019, here are the two best players to ever wear jersey 93 in Seattle.

John Randle

Randle will mostly be remembered for his Minnesota Vikings years. He played 11 seasons in Minnesota before coming to Seattle. What is most remarkable is that between 1993 and 2000 Randle never missed a game for the Vikings.

But Randle’s years in Seattle were not without quality. In fact, his first season with the Seahawks – 2001 – Randle made the Pro Bowl. He had 11 sacks, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery that he turned into a touchdown.

He played two more seasons in Seattle before retiring and he was never bad. Randle just never matched his first year with the team. Still, his first season was good enough to make him one of the two best 93s in Seattle history.

Phillip Daniels

Daniels is a lot like Randle in that he spent just a bit of his career with the Seahawks. The difference is that Daniels began his career with the Seahawks. For the first four seasons in the NFL, Daniels played right defensive end for Seattle and became increasing more important.

In 1998 and 1999, Daniels combined for 15.5 sacks and 96 tackles. The NFL did not have tackles for loss as an official statistics until 1999, but in that seasons Daniels had 15 of them. This would be a career high for Daniels.

Daniels had only one more season of 9 sacks so the argument can be made that the best years of his career were spent in Seattle. It’s just too bad he didn’t have more years as a Seahawk because his career might have been the better for it and so might the franchise.

Next. Too early predictions for every Seahawks game in 2019. dark

Current Seahawk – Branden Jackson

Jackson has played the last two seasons in Seattle and has accumulated 1.5 sacks. He is never going to be a big force with the pass rush but he might be expected to get 3 or 4 sacks this year. Hopefully, he will. Who knows? Maybe Jackson will develop into the best number 93 in Seahawks history.
