Seahawks Sunday roundup: Cody Barton, a name change and the Seattle tour
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks signed a rookie, had another player change his name and the team announced tour dates. Here is some of the Seattle news from last week.
Hello, 12s. As we all know by now, the Seahawks never have a real off-week from making news. And thank goodness. We love our Seattle football team and the Mariners stink so what else is there to discuss? True, there is the Sounders and the Storm. Plus, the new Seattle NHL team hinting at what colors they might be. But forget most of that for now. Here is some of the news surrounding Seattle football from last week.
Cody Barton signs
At long last, third-round pick Cody Barton signed with Seattle. Barton was the last Seattle draft pick to sign, but there wasn’t a whole lot of negotiation he could do. Third-round picks do have a little more wiggle room than other rounds because of some weirdness with the collective bargaining agreement, but otherwise Barton pretty much knew what he would be getting.
Barton will probably earn a bit north of $3 million over four years in Seattle with a signing bonus of $884,124. Exact details of his contract have yet to be announced but since everything is slotted for draft picks in the NFL those numbers are likely to be close.
Barton is expected to be a versatile linebacker in Seattle. He can play inside or out and should be a boon on special teams.
Delano Hill changes his name
The artist formerly known as Delano is now just Lano. Hill will be entering his third season with the Seahawks. He has mostly muddled through the first two years, but did show some promise at times in 2018 when he stepped in for Tedric Thompson. I still think Hill could play the slot a bit, but until he gets more reps at anything he is a threat to not make Seattle’s roster.
In the 2019 draft, the Seahawks took Marquise Blair. Seattle, of course, already had Bradley McDougald. Hill will be practicing to keep his roster spot in the offseason this year.
Seahawks go on tour
Seattle announced the tour dates this week for its yearly caravan. Sunday, though, is the last day to see a few current players and legends. If you have already missed the first two days and live near the Wildhorse Monument in Quincey, Sunday is your day! Go take some photos, 12s, and tag us at 12th Man Rising.
