The Seahawks have 90 days left until they kick off their 2019 season. Who is the best to wear number 90 in Seattle? It could be Jarran Reed.

There is just 90 days left until the Seahawks start the 2019 season. As we countdown the days I take a look at the best player to wear a certain jersey number. Number 90 is Seattle has not been without some solid players. But I am guessing by the end of his time in Seattle, Jarran Reed is the best.

Before I start sermonizing on the greatness of Reed, I definitely need to mention Terry Wooden. Wooden was a very productive linebacker for Seattle from 1990 through 1996. Those were mostly lean years in Seattle but no fault of that was Wooden’s. Four different seasons he had 105 tackles or more. In 1995, he led the NFL with 114 solo tackles. He never made the Pro Bowl, but he was good enough to do so.

But I am going with Reed as the Seahawks best number 90 ever based on his beastly 2018 season and my hope he will be extended for the foreseeable future in Seattle. Last year, Reed had 10.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. By any metric he was among the best defensive tackles in the NFL. He should be again in 2019. And 2020. Yet again in 2021.

Reed will be just 26 years old for most of the 2019 season. Good defensive tackles can easily play into their 30s and Reed can be even better than “good.” In fact, if he builds on his 2018 season, he might be considered great. Reed did not make the Pro Bowl last year. But that only goes to show how much of a popularity contest the Pro Bowl really is. Few defensive tackles were better than Reed last year whether your friends know it or not.

Next. Four Seahawks that must be better in 2019. dark

Keeping Reed in Seattle shouldn’t really be a question for Seattle general manager John Schneider. The Seahawks have the money to spend on Reed in 2020 and should do so sooner rather than later. In five years, it won’t be a matter of if Reed is the best number 90 in Seattle history. The question will be how much better is he than any other player to wear the number.
