The surprising Seahawks streak you never knew was nearly the best ever

Russell Wilson is sacked for seven yards, which would cost the Seahawks an NFL record

The Seahawks streak was so close to the best ever

If Wilson had completed just one more pass against the Bengals the game before the streak began, they would have easily had the record at 16 games. That goes back to the last two games of 2014 and the first games of 2016. Wilson was only 15 of 23 for 213 yards and a touchdown in Cincinnati. Yeah, you’re screaming “but he had 213 yards! What gives?” Four sacks, that’s what gives. Specifically, the sacks took 16 yards off the passing total; so, Wilson had just 197 yards passing for the day. That sack pictured above cost seven yards. But for that one sack, the Seahawks would have made this their seventh straight 200/100 game on their way to 16 in all.

If you’re curious (I know I was) the 2015-2016 Cowboys missed 200 yards passing for three games both before and after their streak. They were nowhere close to Seattle’s sweet run. The Steelers would have extended their streak by two games at the front, but that miss was a real stinker, as they only totaled 191 yards offense versus the Chargers. By the way, this was the 1979 Steelers that rolled through the playoffs to their Super Bowl win. The following season wasn’t as great. They had five straight games under the 200/100 criteria to kill their streak, and their playoff run, for that matter. So they would have fallen short of the Hawks as well.

The Cardinals had missed the 200/100 combo in three of the four games before their streak in 1983. In three of the four games after the streak, they missed again. Again, no threat to the Hawks achievement. I am going to give the 2010 Eagles some love here. In the game before their eight-game streak, they had 99 yards rushing. They hit the 200/100 combo in the five games prior to the near-miss. That would have put them at 14 games. However, they missed both the final game of 2010 to end the streak and the first of 2011. Sorry, but no soup for the boys from Philly.

Next. The Seahawks all-time greatest defenders. dark

I’d say coming just three yards short of putting it all together through the air and on the ground for 16 straight games is pretty darned impressive. Remember this is only for the regular season. If you count the playoffs, add three more games to Seattle’s streak. That gives Seattle an amazing 18 of 19 games hitting that double. The Steelers, despite winning it all in 1980, only pulled off the 200/100 trick once in three playoff games. I’m pretty sure the Lombardi Trophy was a nice consolation prize, though, so good on you, Steeler Nation.
