The Seahawks announced some injury-related moves on Wednesday. Among them are four rookies that were placed on the PUP list.

Seahawks rookie arrived earlier than normal for the beginning of training camp on Wednesday. Four of them were placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, however. These players included 2019 draftees safety Marquise Blair, defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas, offensive guard Phil Haynes and linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven. But don’t be alarmed, 12s. Their injuries might not be serious.

Blair has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of a lot of offseason practices. He was drafted to be a more physically imposing safety than anyone Seattle currently has on its roster. Think more like Kam Chancellor than Earl Thomas.

Burr-Kirven hasn’t seen the Seahawks practice field yet since being drafted. He is recovering from sports hernia surgery.

We are not really sure what is wrong with Haynes or Christmas. There have been some rave reviews around Haynes as he plays with a mean streak and is good at run-blocking. Christmas will battle for a roster spot at defensive tackle, so even if healthy he might have a tough time making the team.

The key thing with all of these injuries is that placing players on PUP at this time of the calendar does not prevent them from playing in preseason or the regular season. Any of them could come off PUP at any time. This basically just gives the Seahawks coaches more time to look at other players fighting for roster spots.

My guess, and this is completely unfounded, is that Blair will be ready by week one. Burr-Kirven won’t play until well into the season. Christmas won’t make the team. And Haynes will start the season healthy but be a backup and see limited reps. But again, there should be no alarm to their injuries currently because they could be off the PUP list tomorrow.
