The Seattle Seahawks began 2019 Training Camp in just a few days. While the main objective of the pre-season is to escape it healthy, there are still a number of things we can watch for.

From the Seahawks Rookie class, the growth of the sophomore’s, and the free-agent class, there are always things to get excited about. But this year, there are a few specific players fans and the team alike, will be keeping a close eye on.

So today, we take a look at 5 players who you can watch this pre-season. Whether or not it’s looking for new favorite players or predicting breakout candidates, here are 5 names for you to watch the next 5 weeks.

Shaquem Griffin

We all love the story of Shaquem Griffin. But there is no doubt that he struggled in his rookie campaign as a weak side linebacker. Now, Griffin did find success as a special-teamer and earned high grades from the coaching staff.

But the Seahawks invested heavily in the linebacker core and their coverage units, meaning Griffin isn’t just fighting for playing time, he is also fighting for his spot on the roster. Griffin has handled bigger challenges than this in his life, but he needs to have a good camp and preseason to keep his spot.

The Seahawks also appear ready to give Griffin that chance and have said they plan on using him in the most comfortable spot; rushing the passer off the edge. At Central Florida, Griffin excelled at using his quickness to turn the edge and collapse a pocket.

There is certainly a need for edge rushers on the roster. This may be Griffin’s best chance to make the 53 man roster so expect him to flash in-game against slower, less athletic tackles. Is work in practices will be crucial, but Griffin will definitely need to show up on game day to keep his spot.
