Quarterback

Starter: Russell Wilson

Backup: Geno Smith

Practice squad: Paxton Lynch

Wilson is clearly the starter. The drop-off to whomever his back up is would be precipitous. Likely, there is no way the Seahawks would make the playoffs, or come close, should Wilson be injured early in the year. Just think how lucky Seattle has been with Wilson not missing any games since he was drafted. That is other-worldly.

As for Lynch, he looks rough this offseason. His mechanics are rough and he is not accurate. There is no way Seattle should trust him should Wilson be injured and Lynch be forced into action. Lynch would lose games and not win them. Still, he is a big guy and if his accuracy were ever fixed he might be decent.

Smith will never step in and lead Seattle to the playoffs but he is also fairly cheap and at least would give the Seahawks a chance to win. He has shown good arm strength and would be able to keep an offensive style somewhat close to the one Wilson runs when he is under center.

Wilson is the starter. Smith or Lynch are not ideal backups. But Smith is much better than Lynch right now.
