There seems to be some discussion on the interwebs about the Seahawks going after Melvin Gordon in a trade. One word: What?

Have you heard the latest absurd rumor? That is that Melvin Gordon, a running back that wants out of Los Angeles due to him being unhappy with his contract status and wants to be traded, could wind up with the Seahawks. That is one one site thinks and others have echoed.

According to Heavy.com, a website I know little about, Gordon could be a good fit in Seattle. But among the reasons they give as to why is this sentence, “It’s been a game of musical chairs at running back for the Seahawks since Marshawn Lynch left town.” Well, no. It hasn’t. Chris Carson was good before being hurt in 2017, he was great in 2018 and is expected to be the long-term starter with Seattle. There are no musical chairs for the running back unit in Seattle.

I get that there can be slow news days in the offseason in the NFL and rumors like Gordon to Seattle would make for good story. But the offseason is over and training camp has begun. There aren’t any slow news days anymore. Seattle isn’t going to trade for a running back that would want a lot more money than Seattle needs to spend.

The Seahawks already have Carson. And Rashaad Penny for that matter. Maybe Penny is all potential right now and is still unproven, but he is the number two behind Carson so potential is OK right now. Carson is under contract for two more years at a low rate and might be as good as Gordon anyway.

The bottom line is that Gordon will not be coming to Seattle and the Seahawks do not need him. Making a move to get Gordon would be very unlike general manager John Schneider. So for anyone who knows anything about Seattle football they already know that Gordon to Seattle is not ever going to occur.
