Believe it or not, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is ascending the record books at an alarmingly fast rate.

It seems like just yesterday that a rookie Russell Wilson delivered a game-winning 46-yard touchdown safely into the arms of Sidney Rice, overcoming a double-digit 4th quarter deficit to defeat the New England Patriots. This play reaffirmed, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s controversial decision to name Wilson the starter that August over the newly signed Matt Flynn.

Now, as Wilson enters his 8th NFL season, it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore that he is not only on pace but exceeding pace to one day become the NFL’s G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All-Time).

Wins

As it stands right now, Wilson holds the record for most wins in a quarterback’s first 7 seasons (75). In the 2019 campaign, he’ll need 11 wins to tie Tom Brady for the record for the first 8 seasons and 12 wins to break the record. Wilson has stated his desire to play 20 seasons and will need to average 10 wins a year the rest of his career to break the current record of 207 wins, also held by Tom Brady. Considering that to this point of his career the Seahawks quarterback has only one season without double-digits wins, this should be more than achievable for the future Hall of Famer.

Stats

When comparing the greatest of all time, the conversation always starts with these two guys: Brady and Drew Brees. If we take both of their stats from their first 7 seasons and compare them to Wilson’s, the Seattle quarterback trumps both of them in almost every category. And it isn’t close.

Russell Wilson: 100.3 QBR, 64.2 Completion %, 25,624 yards, 196 TD, 63 Int

Tom Brady: 88.4 QBR, 61.9 Cmp%, 21,564 Yds, 147 TD, 78 Int

Drew Brees: 87.9 QBR, 63.7 Cmp%, 21,189 Yds, 134 TD, 82 Int

Legacy

With already one Super Bowl victory under his belt, and many more prime years ahead of him, Wilson has a tremendous opportunity to add to his trophy case. That being paired with the fact that Wilson had a 2017 season where he set the record for the highest percentage of one team’s yards produced by one player (80.3%). He led the team in both passing and rushing, while also setting the record for the highest percentage of team touchdowns scored with 37 of 38 (97.3%). By definition, he arguably had the most valuable season by any player ever.

With a play-style and signature moments unlike other, Wilson is undoubtedly on pace to vault himself into the conversation of the greatest. As long as he keeps producing wins and stats at a similar rate, the only thing that can stop him is injuries. If we know anything about Wilson, we know that he is more then ready for the challenge.
