The Seahawks like to run the ball and now Seattle wants to throw running back Chris Carson the ball as well and this is awesome.

According to several outlets and fantasy fans, the Seahawks are going to throw running back Chris Carson the ball a lot this year. Coach Pete Carroll says that, “Chris might have as good of hands as anybody on the team.” That might be good or bad (the receivers can’t catch?). But if you like Carson, get prepared to see him featured a bunch this year.

Not that Carson isn’t worth it. In 14 games in 2018, Carson ran for 1,151 yards and 9 touchdowns. He is good. Very good. Here’s the thing, though. He is a seventh-round pick and worth in dollars a lot less than first round choice Rashaad Penny is. Carson is, and I truly hate to say this, expendable. At least, in terms on money.

The advantage to Seattle’s offense is that Carson over a year and a handful of games is very productive. Even behind a terrible line in 2017, Carson found a way to get yards. Penny hasn’t really proven he can do anything. Yet. Maybe Penny will be great and maybe Carson will digress. The truth is, Seattle needs to use Carson a lot more this year to start.

And that goes for both the monetarily part and the productivity aspect. While Penny could be the future, Carson is the present. Possibly even, Carson is the future too. But having a seventh-round pick be really good while running for maybe 1,200 and catching 40 to 50 passes is great for fans and the team’s cap space. and maybe, most importantly, winning games.

For 2019, expect a lot of Carson in the Seahawks’ offensive game plan as long as he stays healthy. This means more receptions and as many touches running as he got in 2018. He was good then and he should be good this year. That simply helps Seattle win football games and there is nothing wrong with that.
