The Seahawks are already without D.K. Metcalf for a bit. Now another receiver, David Moore, is going to be out for a bit too.

Who is Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson going to throw to? Sure, maybe Tyler Lockett, if his health holds up. But not D.K. Metcalf for at least the rest of preseason. And now it appears David Moore is going to be “out a while.” Those are coach Pete Carroll’s words and not mine.

Metcalf is a rookie so who knows what Seattle would get from him year one. Moore didn’t produce big numbers in 2018 but showed a bit of promise. The issue is that Seattle will definitely be without retired Doug Baldwin so depth is a huge issue already at receiver. Plus, quarterbacks and receivers need time to build rapport through reps. Maybe this is happening in practice some, but Wilson might be starting to ask himself who he actually is throwing the ball to with his next pass?

Moore suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday’s practice. He was practicing lately as a starter in three receiver sets, along with Lockett and Jaron Brown. Metcalf would have probably been the next guy up, but he is out. Seattle is so young at receiver now that the unit could be a big weakness going into the regular season. Basically, the battle for a wide receiver roster spot is wide open at this point.

It's make or break for some Seahawks Saturday. dark. Next

In fact, this unit will be one to watch in Saturday’s preseason game against the Chargers. Someone, such as John Ursua, might just earn themselves a roster spot with two solid performances in the final two preseason games. While the Seahawks would clearly like to have more known commodities at receiver, at least the players who remain are motivated.
