Three roster moves that Seahawks could make based on Raiders game
By Lee Vowell
Shaquem Griffin versus Ben Burr-Kirven
Shaq Griffin is a great story. It would be sad for him to not be a member of the Seahawks anymore for several reasons. One is that he has the potential to possibly help Seattle’s pass rush if he was used in a specific way. Two is that he has only one hand and has worked his butt off to get where he is. Three is that his twin brother plays an important role on the team and how would it affect Shaquill’s morale if Shaquem were cut?
At the same time, every player needs to make an NFL team on their own merit. Ben Burr-Kirven was a tackling machine his last year at the University of Washington. He can be a special teams guy who does well. BBK is not going to be a starter for years in Seattle, if ever. There are better linebackers ahead of him, like Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks.
Griffin has been injured lately which doesn’t help his – or anyone trying to make a team – cause. He needs to be very good on Thursday. Burr-Kirven just needs to show how active he can be. Both are on rookie contracts. Maybe Seattle keeps both. But besides the starters, Seattle is likely to keep Cody Barton and Austin Calitro.
It might be that both Burr-Kirven and Griffin are released. Maybe Griffin falls back to the practice squad while some other team picks up BBK. But maybe one of them makes Seattle’s roster based on how they play Thursday against the Raiders.
