3 biggest strengths for Seahawks versus the Bengals week one
By Lee Vowell
Tyler Lockett is going to get a lot of targets
Cincinnati has a pretty good secondary. Pro Football Focus ranked them seventh overall in 2018. But the Seahawks won’t simply send their best receiver, Tyler Lockett, out wide every play for the secondary to key on him. Seattle is going to move Lockett around a bunch.
Sure, Lockett will be out wide quite a bit and likely Russell Wilson is going to try to hit him deep once or twice. But Lockett in the slot is very dangerous against the Bengals. The linebackers of Cincinnati aren’t great in coverage and Seattle will probably try to find an alignment where Lockett is up against a linebacker one on one some.
I also imagine Lockett lining up in the backfield some too. Try to swing a pass or two his way or a jet sweep. We’ve seen Lockett do wonders on sweeps before. But putting Lockett in the backfield creates a mismatch somewhere on the field that Wilson and Lockett will do great things with.
Lockett has never been a number one receiver, though he played like one last season. His career high is 71 targets. This season he should get closer to triple digits if he stays healthy. No other receiver om Seattle’s roster is even close to him in terms of production and experience. Lockett will have a big year in 2019 and it starts in week one versus the Bengals.
