So…it wasn’t an ideal opening weekend for the Seattle Seahawks except for that whole part where they won a game in the NFL.

And let’s not get it twisted here. The Seahawks had some real positives in this game. The Seahawks patchwork defensive line played well. They recorded 5 sacks and had 2 passes batted in the air. They also forced two Andy Dalton fumbles, including the game-winner with 9 seconds to go.

Despite a poor performance from the offensive line, Russell Wilson still managed to complete 14 of 20 passes for 196 yards, 2 touchdowns, and most importantly, zero turnovers.

D.K. Metcalf balled out in his debut, snagging 4 passes on 6 targets for 89 years and even showed off impressive route running skills as he attempts to shake off the stigma that dropped him to late in the second round.

The front 7 held the Bengals to just 2.4 yards per carry and 34 total rushing yards. Mychal Kendricks even batted 2 balls as a pass rusher. Shaquill Griffin looked remarkably good, batting away two passes, and the special teams did their part, not missing any field goals and even forcing a turnover.

And really, ask yourself this: if Tedric Thompson makes the play before half, you know the one that an NFL safety should make 100% of the time, how different are you feeling? So yes, the Seahawks have a lot to work on. They looked sloppy. So did most teams in the league.

Jadeveon Clowney, Al Woods, and Quinton Jefferson all shone brightly. The team escaped relatively healthy. The connection between Russell and DK looks strong, despite the time they missed in the preseason. The defense forced 12 negative plays, not including the two lost fumbles. The season is long, and don’t forget it.
