The Seahawks squeaked by the Bengals in week one. In week two they play a more talented Steelers team and three players need to be better for Seattle to win.

The Seahawks may have started with a win in week one of 2019, but it certainly was not the kind of performance 12s expected. In fact, the way the Bengals dominated the line of scrimmage defensively and the statistics it is hard to remember exactly how Seattle won.

Several players for Seattle did well, like D.K. Metcalf and Quinton Jefferson. Metcalf caught deep passes under duress and did not look like he was playing his first real game in the NFL. Jefferson, on the other hand, probably played the best game of his life. Maybe both will play well in week two but they will need help.

Here are three players who need to be better for the Seahawks in week two.

Tyler Lockett

Maybe Lockett really isn’t a number one receiver? He was targeted just twice against the Bengals. It could be that Russell Wilson simply needed more time to throw to Lockett. But number one receivers should be able to get open quickly and help their quarterback out.

Lockett did have the 44 yard touchdown reception but that wasn’t until the fourth quarter. His second target was a perfectly thrown seam pass by Wilson that could have led to Seattle winning more comfortably. Lockett dropped it. He usually has sure hands so it was almost shocking to see him not catch the pass in that situation. Number one receivers catch those kinds of passes.

Wilson, like every other quarterback, needs one or two security blankets. These are receivers he knows he can throw to under duress and have confidence they will catch it. Lockett needs to start being that for Wilson and it needs to start week two against the Steelers.
