Tre Flowers

The last half of 2018 Flowers appeared to be about to eclipse an underwhelming Shaquill Griffin as Seattle’s best cornerback. Against the Bengals in week one, however, Griffin was pretty good and Flowers was not. Flowers may have had 10 tackles but that was because Cincinnati kept throwing his way and getting completions.

Flowers also got called for pass interference deep in Seattle territory but I am not going to totally blame him for that one. It was a fairly weak call as he was not controlling the receiver with his left arm while knocking the ball away with his right. In fact, Flowers seemed to play better after the call. On the very next play he knocked down a pass.

I still think Flowers has all the physical attributes in the Seahawks system to be a number one corner. My fear is that, like Griffin, he will regress in his second season some. He was better than expected in 2018 but Seattle needs him to be better in 2019.

If Flowers isn’t good against the Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger will abuse him all game. Pittsburgh would likely, unlike Cincinnati, score points against Seattle. Basically, if Flowers isn’t better in week two, Seattle will lose.
