So Ifedi should still start for the Seahawks?

While the Seahawks appear to show faith in the young right tackle, they were not willing to extend a fifth-year option to the player.  This shows long-term hesitation unless real progress is made this season, making it more or less a make it or break it year. Thus far, we have been far from overwhelmed by the on-field production. Ifedi has already given up 3 penalties along with 1 sack and numerous other pressures and QB hits.

Through 2 weeks he is tied for the lead in holding penalties. If Ifedi wants to keep his job he will need to turn the corner, and fast. I imagine his leash is going to be rather short this year. I can see by week 5 if he has not turned a corner that the team will look for a replacement.

On the roster there are only two viable options to play the right tackle, Jamarco Jones and George Fant. I am a huge fan of Jamarco Jones. However, it appears they are grooming him under Duane Brown to take over at left tackle when Brown decides to call it quits.

This leaves George Fant, while we love seeing him play in the jumbo package his number hasn’t been called much so far this season. Thus far he played just 17% of snaps against the Bengals and 20% against the Steelers. George Fant has 17 career starts between the two-tackle position. If the Seahawks were to make a change I would expect Fant to be the first to get he nod, followed by Jones.
