Seahawks defensive grades versus Cardinals highlighted by Jadeveon Clowney
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks defense didn’t exactly shut down the Cardinals in week four. But they did get a score of their own and put pressure on Kyler Murray.
The Seahawks defeated the Cardinals 27-10 in week four to move to 3-1. Arizona fell to 0-3-1. The win felt a lot more comfortable than most Seattle wins. A lot of that was helped by an early Jadeveon Clowney pick six to make the game 10-0.
Here are the defensive grades for Seattle in week four.
Defensive line
The line got consistently decent, if not great, pressure on Kyler Murray. Murray was sacked four times, but just two by the defensive line. It was good to see Rasheem Green active and making an impact. Ziggy Ansah got his first sack as a Seahawk on the meaningless play that ended the game. Seattle gave up some running yard early, too. Still, Clowney got the pick six, a freakishly athletic play for a man his size, and against a spread offense the line did OK.
Grade: B-
Linebackers
Bobby Wagner had 11 tackles and was the communicator of a defense that bent a bit but never really broke. That was the design and it worked. Especially as Seattle got an early lead and just wanted to keep it that way. Mychal Kendricks had two sacks and K.J. Wright had seven tackles. The linebackers proved why they are the strength of this Seahawks defense.
Grade: A
Secondary
Shaquill Griffin had a pass defended and was good in coverage yet again to go along with seven tackles. He is certainly making 2018 look like it was simply an off year for him instead of his new norm. Tre Flowers had five tackles and looked like he wasn’t afraid to hot someone.
Bradley McDougald and Tedric Thompson were solid and didn’t give up any big plays. Plus, all those missed tackles in week three versus the Saints were gone this week. Not exactly Legion of Boom levels for the secondary, but good enough for 2019.
