The Seahawks defeated the Rams in week five 30-29. It was a completely stressful and wonderful game and was classic Seattle football.

Sorry, 12s. I was covering my eyes. Did the Seahawks win in week five against the Rams? They did? Wow. Just like seemingly every other Seattle football game, it was difficult to watch if you care about the team. It isn’t always easy being a fan, but when Seattle wins the way they did against Los Angeles it might make one remember why they are a fan in the first place.

First of all, Seattle started in a classic Seattle way. They fell behind 6-0 they couldn’t really protect Russell Wilson and Wilson was having to work magic to not get sacked every time he dropped back. Then, as the Seahawks normally do, they came back and took a lead 14-6 and looked really good getting there.

But then Pete Carroll, as he has a couple of times this season, seemed to find a way to goof up in the final two minutes of the first half. Seattle had the ball third and one inside of Rams territory and Brian Schottenheimer called the obvious run play with Chris Carson. Carson got stuffed. Then Seattle lined up to go for it but Carroll called a timeout. Seattle should have gone for it but didn’t and then Jason Myers missed a field goal. It changed the momentum of the game.

The Rams did come back to score three touchdowns on their next four drives and took a lead 29-24. But as Wilson often does, he led his team to a late touchdown drive that ended with his throwing a touchdown pass to Carson on fourth and goal from the five.

Seattle had fewer total yards than the Rams, 477 to 429. But Seattle held the ball 35:18 to the Rams’ 24:42. Wilson was brilliant throughout. He was 17 of 23 for 268 yards and four touchdowns. His quarterback rating was 151.8. He hasn’t yet thrown an interception this season.

Carson was great too. After a slow start due to his blocking, Carson finished with 118 yards rushing on 27 carries and the one catch for a touchdown. Carson literally carried Rams yards to pick up first downs at times.

The play of the game, other than the Rams missing the 44 yard field goal at the end, was the amazingly perfect throw from Wilson to Tyler Lockett as Wilson rolled out to his left and then threw the ball in the end zone where only Lockett could get it. It is good that the Seahawks have such a great quarterback.

Overall, Seattle’s defense did just enough even though they struggled for a lot of the second half. Seattle’s offense wasn’t great through either but scored enough to win. At the end of the day it came down to special moments, like Lockett’s touchdown and Carson’s touchdown and Tedric Thompson’s fourth quarter interception, and those moments were enough to get Seattle the win and move them to 4-1. The Rams fell to 3-2.
