The Seahawks got tremendous efforts from several players in their win over the Rams. No one had a better game than the magical Russell Wilson.

Listen, I realize there were a lot of Seahawks that had great games last night. Chris Carson, I know the Rams defense is still feeling your shoulderpads. I know several players made some truly amazing, heads-up plays. Tyler Lockett made an impossible play look simply routine. As for you, Tedric Thompson, all is forgiven. But no one was more valuable to the Hawks than Russell Wilson.

Before I go into the rapturous details of Wilson’s performance, I have to say a bit more about the rest of the team. On any other night, Chris Carson would have been my MVP. He proved the first three games this season are distant memories. No one would bat an eye if Tyler Lockett got a nomination. Not with that 33-yard kick return, those catches, and the catch of the millennium. Of course without that amazing interception by Tedric Thompson, nothing would have mattered.

As I said, all three would be fine choices in any other game. They’re far from the only ones. But this is about the one person who above all others won this game for the Seahawks. Russell Wilson played the best game of his career last night. He was already off to the best start of his career. Yet he still managed to cap all those efforts in the 30-29 win over the Rams.

His stats for the game aren’t that flashy, until you dig deeper. Wilson completed 17 of 23 passes for 268 yards. Nice game, right? Add in that he threw four touchdown passes and zero picks, and it looks a bit clearer. He finished with a passer rating of 151.8, the second-highest rating his career. His highest passer rating, 158.3, was against the 6-10 Lions last year. I’m definitely giving the edge to this performance against the defending division champs. I mean, look at these plays:

Next. Hawks beat Rams in an intense contest. dark

Wilson kept the Rams defense guessing by completing passes to eight different Seahawks. He repeatedly picked up key yards as he ran eight times for 32 yards. DangeRuss almost entirely avoided the Rams pass rush too, as he was only sacked once. And as for Lockett’s catch, even as savvy a quarterback as Troy Aikman assumed Wilson was throwing the ball away. It was just one of number 3’s many magical plays. It was an absolutely magical MVP performance.
