Trent Williams would be an absolute godsend for the Seahawks now

Trent Williams would already have been a welcome addition to the Seahawks. With the recent offensive line injuries, he’d be an absolute godsend.

The Seahawks offensive line play has steadily improved with the arrival of coach Mike Solari. They’re still not the best in the league, though. There’s a player who could move them up the ladder, and he might just be available. That would be tackle Trent Williams of Washington. The Skins are playing hardball but with recent developments in Seattle, the Hawks may be willing to give up whatever it takes to get Williams to the CenturyLink Field

I wrote about the possibility of a trade for Williams earlier, when there was some brief buzz over Taco Charlton. Trent Williams always made much more sense as a trade target for the Seahawks than Charlton. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed will be back next week, so defensive tackle was never such a pressing need. Plus Williams has been to the Pro Bowl for the last seven seasons while Charlton has been a career underachiever. Pete Carroll has a way of getting those guys on track, but Williams fits the bill better for Seattle.

As of Friday, he fits it better than ever. The Seahawks placed Ethan Pocic on injured reserve today. That sad tale followed the news that D.J. Fluker will likely miss Sunday’s game versus the Browns. Duane Brown is still battling his injured biceps, so his status is in flux as well. That is not good news at all. Jordan Roos has been promoted from the practice squad to take Pocic’s place. I like Roos, and he is one intensely strong man. But which would you rather see on the roster; a player just up from the practice squad or a seven-time Pro Bowler?

The problem lies with Washington. The Skins have been adamant about not sending Williams away in a trade. You may remember the Texans were pretty set about keeping their holdout tackle Duane Brown in 2017, too. Washington is 0-5 this season with no prospects of improvement. They’d be complete fools to keep Trent Williams, just to punish him. Then again, we are talking about Washington owner Daniel Snyder, a colossal fool if there ever was one.

Next. Hawks should try for Chris Harris. dark

The Seahawks could absolutely use a player the caliber of Trent Williams. I mean no disrespect to Jamarco Jones, who was terrific in his first game as a guard. Jones is a tackle by trade, and once Fluker returns – hopefully soon – Jones could vie for a starting role. Williams is the answer for the Seahawks. I just hope the Skins will listen.
