The Seahawks Trade Verdict

Point: The Seahawks chose not to spend this money on their own 2019 FA Justin Coleman. With this logic, it seems unlikely they will bring in an exterior player with similar playing ability, that has less knowledge of the system for the same cap hit.

Counterpoint: No one would have guessed the level of competitiveness all around in the NFC West. Going after a player that would help shore up the secondary for this year and know a comp pick will be coming a year later if Harris were to walk would be a huge get for the team with Superbowl aspirations.

Trade meter: (1 being extremely unlikely, 10 being nearly a done deal.) I would give this trade a solid 6.

The trade makes sense on all aspects outside the financials. I can’t see Harris sticking around after this season runs out. If we can get him for a 5th or less, I would consider it a win. If Harris were to walk after the season it would be easy to see him getting a contract somewhere around $5-8 million range. This would be good for a 5 or 6th round comp pick in the 2021 draft.

(Side-note: Over the next couple weeks, I’m going to be writing about players the Seahawks have either been connected to in the rumor mill or players I hope we inquire about. If there are any players, you as the fan are wanting to read about and to see what a potential trade could look like, please comment on this article with the players name and why you want him on the roster.)
