Seahawks MVP for game six: the forgotten man, Jaron Brown
It took a balanced effort from several of the Seahawks to finally put the Browns away. There were plenty of standouts, but my MVP has to be Jaron Brown.
The Seahawks fell behind early to the Browns, but in typical fashion, they just kept plugging away. Chris Carson kept on slashing and bashing his way through the Cleveland defense, winding up with his third straight 100-yard game. Russell Wilson solidified his early hold on the NFL MVP race as he threw for two scores and ran for another. The defense came up with three key interceptions by three different players. For me, the MVP today was the Hawks forgotten man, Jaron Brown.
Sure, I could say the MVP was Wilson again. But that’s typically the case for any NFL quarterback. It’s no one’s fault but Mr. Unlimited himself that he’s being held to such high standards. Remember when people were saying Dak Prescott was just as good as Wilson? Funny stuff, huh. It would be easy to give say Carson was the Hawks most valuable player today as well. He had 124 yards on 24 carries and added another 35 yards on four catches. His counterpart for the Browns scored twice, but Carson had more total yards. I’m comfortable saying that Carson is a better player than Nick Chubb.
But that doesn’t make either of them today’s MVP. For me, it has to be wide receiver Jaron Brown. Brown has gone overlooked with all the attention given Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. Lockett has been unstoppable for entire games, and of course has the catch of the decade. Metcalf has had spectacular catches in nearly every game. After today’s action, he’s averaging 21.0 yards per catch. That’s tough competition, but Brown has been ready at every opportunity.
His first score came with just 22 seconds left in the half on a 17-yard strike from Wilson. It was a critical play as it pulled the Seahawks within two points. Brown scored his second touchdown on a six-yard pass to give the Hawks their first lead of the game. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that Wilson looked for him in the red zone, as Brown was money last year. All he did was turn all six of his red zone targets into scores. Despite that, Seattle seemed to forget him at times.
I’m the first to admit that Brown was pushed down the rotation by the great success of tight end Will Dissly. Unfortunately, it looks like Dissly is done for the season. The Seahawks will definitely need some players to step up now. The good news is, Jaron Brown has already started. Congratulations to today’s MVP!
