FS: Tedric Thompson

Tedric Thompson came into the league as a 4th round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. His final collegiate year, Thompson amassed 16 broken up passes and 7 interceptions. He entered the NFL draft as one of the most intriguing players in the draft, known for his elite ball hawking skills. So far this year Thompson has amassed 18 tackles with 2 interceptions.

Why the Seahawks may trade him away:

Coach Carroll has been stead fast that Thompson is their guy since early 2018 when Earl Thomas went out with injury. However, his faith in Thompson seems to be wavering in recent weeks, namely saying the 50- yard completion Lamar Jackson threw in week 7 was “distasteful” and that “there’s no way that should ever happen.”

The Seahawks were so displeased, post game they made a trade with the Lions for the secondary swiss army knife Quandre Diggs who can be a plug and play at free safety. Marquise Blair also had his first career start as the strong safety against the Ravens and showed the world just how special he can be. Displaying great coverage skills, high football IQ and sound tackling fundamentals. If the Seahawks envision Diggs and Blair as the safety Tandem with McDougald sprinkled in once healthy, there may simply be no room left for the Thompson.

Why other teams will trade for him:

Over the past three weeks Thompson has amassed 2 interceptions. He has finally started to flash the big play ability that was consistently displayed in college. A team in need for secondary help and lacking in the safety department may look to take a late round flyer on the player hoping to improve his tackling and coverage fundamentals while capitalizing on his big play ability.

Top destination:

Cowboys: It’s no secret that the Cowboys have been in the market for a free safety for a couple years now. Rumors flew last year about Earl Thomas being potentially traded to the Cowboys, however it may be another Seahawk that makes his way to Dallas. While the Cowboys balked at the price tag of Earl Thomas, Tedric Thompson is just on his 3rd year of his rookie deal.

Defensive Coordinator Kris Richards was also part of the Seahawks organization that drafted Thompson out of Colorado back in 2017. Fair trade compensation would likely get them around a 2020 6th round pick.

Other potential destinations:

Ravens, Buccaneers, and Giants
