Three Seahawks that need to play well versus Vikings for Seattle to win
By Lee Vowell
Tre Flowers
Flowers had a rough start to the season. After a promising rookie year that looked like he could bloom into the next great Seahawks cornerback, he regressed greatly through the first five games of 2019. Flowers had just one pass deflection through those five games at the beginning of the year. He looked slow to react on most pass routes.
It could be that Flowers didn’t feel comfortable with whoever the safety was that was supposed to help him. Seattle rotated a few safeties behind Flowers, Tedric Thompson, Lano Hill and Marquise Blair. Thompson was inconsistent. Hill couldn’t stay healthy. Blair showed promise but is a rookie.
Quandre Diggs arrived a few weeks ago and his veteran presence seems to have helped the defense overall but Flowers specifically. In the last two games with Diggs playing free safety, Flowers has been in on 13 tackles, had three passes defended, including an interception, and had a sack.
On Monday, though, Flowers will be tested by good Minnesota receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen (Thielen is questionable with a hamstring injury, though). Both Thielen and Diggs are physically talented but smart as well. They know how to get open.
Flowers will give up some receptions on Monday but if he can make a break or two on passes, he could get an interception as well. In what should be a close game between the Seahawks and Vikings, a timely turnover could change the outcome. And Flowers could get that turnover.
