The Seahawks not only lost to the Rams in week 14, but they suffered an injury to Rashaad Penny that appears to be a long-term issue.

The Seahawks dropped to 10-3 after a week 14 loss to the Rams. They are still in good shape for the postseason, however, and need to win just one of their last three games to get to the playoffs. Those games will be spent without running back Rashaad Penny, though.

On Sunday, Penny suffered what Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said was a “significant ACL sprain.” These are not the words anyone wants to hear, but especially a player who relies on quick cuts and speed to make his money. Penny is likely done for the season. And depending on the severity of the issue, possibly even a bit into next year too.

This will leave Seattle with Chris Carson and then a whole bunch of not much. Carson surpassed the 1,000-yard mark on Sunday against the Rams (not for the game but for the season, otherwise that would be a record). Behind Carson are now C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer. Prosise and Homer have a combined 72 yards rushing this year, or 4 yards less than Carson had against the Rams on Sunday.

Seattle had a number of players leave the game versus the Rams, though most were able to go back in. One concern is Cody barton. Barton is going to have an MRI on his knee after suffering a knee and ankle injury on Sunday. Barton left the game for a few plays but was able to get back on the field. With time off, though, Barton’s knee could get worse.

Barton was playing for Mychal Kendricks who missed the Rams game with a hamstring injury. If Kendricks can’t play this coming week versus the Panthers, I would expect that the Seahawks will play two linebackers and five defensive backs a lot more.
