Seahawks MVPs for game 15: Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright
The Seahawks played a terrible game and got worse news after the final whistle blew. If not for Wagner and Wright, there’d be nothing good to say about it.
There’s no way to sugarcoat this one. The Seahawks were awful today. Yes, they were missing three of their best defenders in Jadeveon Clowney, Quandre Diggs, and Shaquill Griffin. Left tackle Duane Brown was out as well. That’s the Hawks best defensive lineman, their two best players in pass coverage, and their best blocker. Despite that, I expected a better game from Seattle. At least we got that from my MVPs of the day, the linebacker tandem Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright.
Wagner had 13 tackles, two for a loss, and one sack. Wright brought down the opposition 13 times as well. They were all over the field, and they had to be. Kenyan Drake was too fast too often for the Seahawks defense. You’ve probably heard that a couple of times before. Just substitute the names Alvin Kamara and Lamar Jackson, and you have two of the Hawks other losses at the hands of speedsters they couldn’t match.
That’s a problem the Hawks will have to address next season. It’s a bit late to worry about it now, right? As it stands now, Seattle will be in survival mode next week when they host the 49ers. As if Seattle hasn’t lost enough players, three more are now out. Brown will miss next week, as he needs surgery on his knee. Reportedly, there’s a slight chance he can make it back for the playoffs. The news wasn’t so good on Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise. Carson is out for the year with a hip injury, while Prosise is done due to a broken arm.
We’ll talk about that horrible development more this week. For now, I’m just glad that the Seahawks can count on Wagner and Wright next week and on into the playoffs. Seattle will need huge games from both of them when they play for the division title next Sunday. Winning the division would be great, but a week of rest at this point could make a big difference for this team. It won’t get Carson and Prosise back on the field, but it could make all the difference in the world for Clowney, Diggs, and Griffin.
I’ll say this for the Seahawks. I was extremely disappointed in the outcome of today’s game. I wasn’t a bit happy with the team’s execution. Frankly, I’m very worried about Russell Wilson. The Hawks were flat, and often out of position. But they didn’t quit. They never do, even when it isn’t their day. I’ll hold on to that, and the performances of Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright.
