Seahawks going all in on Beast Mode versus Packers
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks need a good run game to win deep in the playoffs. Seattle now seems to be turning fully back to Marshawn Lynch to lead them.
The Seahawks got pretty much nothing out of their run game against the Eagles during Wild Card week. Still, Seattle found a way to win the game. But that will not be the case moving forward. Seattle isn’t good enough offensively with just throwing the ball to win big games. Marshawn Lynch will be valuable against Green Bay, and hopefully beyond.
Lynch did have just six carries and 7 yards against the Eagles on Sunday. But he had two catches for 25 yards. His longest run was 5 yards, but it was an awesome 5-yard touchdown run that actually resulted in the deciding score. After Lynch’s run, Seattle led 10-3 in the second quarter. The Eagles scored only 9 in the game.
Green Bay, even though their defense was 18th in the league in total yards and 9th in points per game (19.6) and they led a lot during games as they finished 13-3, their rush defense was 23rd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed (120.1 yards a game) and 24th in yards allowed per rush (4.7). The Packers can be run on to some degree.
Green Bay’s pass defense was sixth in the NFL in quarterback rating allowed at 81.1. This means that likely the Seahawks will need to find another way of pulling off an upset of Green Bay at Lambeau Field other than using Russell Wilson. Enter Beast Mode.

I don’t think that Marshawn Lynch is going to gain 120 yards rushing, but he doesn’t need to. He needs to just show he can be dangerous enough for the Packers to worry about his picking up chunk yards on the ground. Coach Pete Carroll said on Monday about Lynch: “He’s going to play more this week.”
This is basically the start of the games (hopefully) that the Seahawks re-signed Lynch for. They didn’t need to win against the 49ers and Lynch played little. To beat the Eagles, Seattle need to throw the ball. This week is different. If the Seahawks are going to advance into the NFC Championship game, they will need Lynch to be the best he can be. Anything less will be a Seattle loss.
