Four Seahawks that need to step up for Seattle to beat the Packers
By Lee Vowell
No. 1: Quarterback Russell Wilson
There is no argument against it: The Seahawks will win or lose based on what Russell Wilson does on Sunday. The running game for Seattle simply isn’t good enough to carry Seattle to a victory. Wilson has a mixed history against the Packers but even in a game when he threw 4 interceptions (not all his fault), he brought Seattle back to win.
My fear is that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will look at the Packers pass rush and good secondary and think Seattle needs to go conservative and try to keep the game close to the line. They shouldn’t. In fact, it might be best to let Wilson run the show.
I can imagine the Seahawks going no-huddle at times to change the pace, keep the Packers pass rush off-tempo and let Wilson innovate by throwing or running or whatever he needs to do to get Seattle the victory.
Because at the end of the day, the thing that Wilson does best is win games. It isn’t always pretty and sometimes it looks disjointed but no one is better at leading his team late in games and not feeling the pressure to be great in the last two minutes. If Seattle can simply let Wilson be Wilson on Sunday, he should lead them to a position where they can win the game.
