It’s refreshing when a superstar athlete tells the worlher isn’t all about him. Russell Wilson just did that, recruiting more stars to join the Seahawks.

All 12s love the face of the Seahawks, the inimitable Russell Wilson. Of course, much of that is for his ridiculously great on-field talent. But there’s so much more to the man who has been one of the very best players in the NFL since his debut. Whether he’s investing in the community or visiting kids at the hospital, Wilson consistently shows he’s one of the league’s best off the field as well. And now he’s made it clear he wants even more for his team.

As reported by the great Bob Condotta for The Seattle Times, Wilson made it clear that success for the team means much more to him than individual accolades. As Condotta wrote, DangeRuss has been named to the Pro Bowl seven times, but would much prefer to be in practice for the following game. To do that, the Seahawks need to make a few moves.

"“The question for us is, what are we going to do to take the next step?” Wilson said then. “I think that’s what we’ve got to figure out as players and as coaches and the whole organization as we continue to try to be the best in the world. To be the best in the world, you got to do all the necessary things to get there.”"

If you ever doubted that Wilson is driven to be the best, you clearly haven’t been paying attention. This isn’t a man who’s satisfied with personal accolades. Nor is he preoccupied with personal rewards – read that as his contract. See what he says about just what the Seahawks need:

"“I think we need a couple more (players),’’ Wilson said. “I think we need a couple more. (Defensive end) Jadeveon (Clowney) is a big-time guy that we would love to get back on our football team. He was so good in the locker room. He brought so many just havoc plays to the field. Hopefully, we can get a few other players there on the defense. Then also on offense, we have a great offense, but I think we can always add more pieces. I think that’s going to be the part that’s going to be great with (general manager) John Schneider and (coach) Pete (Carroll), as well, in terms of this offseason’s free agency. Free agency is very, very key to getting those superstars on your team and try to get great players that can fill the space.”"

Do the Seahawks truly need a couple more pieces, as Wilson said? I think it’s obvious they need a couple more playmakers on defense, as he said. The offense was solid, but why settle for anything than the best? Russell Wilson clearly wants the Hawks to be the best.

One question that comes to mind regards his contract. Will he be willing to restructure his deal, much as Tom Brady did for the Patriots? The Hawks have a lot of cap room available, $59.4 million as of now. That’s going to increase, too, but Wilson could add quite a bit more. I’m not suggesting he should, but that would definitely show even more commitment to the success of the Seahawks.

Next. Seahawks have to do a better job here. dark

I’m not suggesting he should restructure his deal. If he did, that would definitely show even more commitment to the success of the Seahawks. Whether he does or not, you can be sure DangeRuss is working hard to recruit other stars to join the Hawks on their drive to another championship.
