Seahawks target four: Denzel Mims, Senior, Baylor

Denzel Mims is an ideal target if the Seahawks are looking to pair another massive wide receiver across from DK Metcalf. Mims is a two-sport athlete and plays with excellent speed and leaping ability. He stands at 6’3” and weighs 215lbs. This puts his size in the DK Metcalf ballpark. However, don’t let his size fool you, he plays with the agility of a much smaller receiver.

Mims will catch just about anything thrown his direction thanks to a massive catch radius and soft hands. The guy rarely drops the rock. He makes impressive plays look effortless (just check out a few of the clips below). He plays with impressive straight-line speed. Has exceptional ball tracking skills on deep passes. Once he catches the ball he does a remarkable job with making the first man miss. He is a decent blocker, however, can get overpowered at times but the effort is there.

His major areas of concern are the lack of variety in his route running tree and concentration on 50/50 balls. These are the same concerns that led him to return for his senior year as opposed to entering the 2019 draft. One thing to note, his route running and concentration both improved over the last year. All signs show he has one of the highest ceilings in the draft if he lands in the right situation.

Could you imagine the size of Denzel Mims and DK Metcalf as the X and Z, with Lockett in the slot? Teams simply wouldn’t be able to match up to the sheer athleticism and size at the wide receiver for Seattle. I fully expect Mims to blow away scouts at the combine. His raw athleticism should have him testing comparatively to DK last year, with a better 3-cone and 20-yard shuttle.

His play reminds me of Will Fuller with the Texans. Both are incredible athletes with an excellent burst and long-range speed. Like Fuller, Mims would be best suited to run deep routes. Both players utilize their sheer speed, and athletic gifts to blow out opposing wide receivers in open field. There aren’t many players who can match up consistently against them.

Player comparison: Will Fuller

Draft projection: 3rd round
