The Seahawks need a good third option at receiver for Russell Wilson. That answer could come in the form of Randall Cobb via free agency.

The Seahawks really missed Doug Baldwin last season. Not because Russell Wilson didn’t have options, he did. Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, by the end of the season, were one of the best receiver duos in the NFL. But they were just that: a duo without much help. Imagine what Seattle would have been like with Baldwin, Lockett and Metcalf.

For Seattle’s offense to be even better in 2020, they need to find a third option besides Lockett and Metcalf. Randall Cobb could be that guy. Cobb played last year with the Cowboys and prior to that played 8 seasons with the Packers. During his time in the NFL, he has gotten paid. He made $8.6 million per season in 2017 and 2018, but missed part of 2018 with injury. This hurt his wallet in 2019.

Dallas picked up Cobb for last year and Cobb was very good out of the slot. This is exactly where the Seahawks would need him to be. Lockett can be moved around, out wide and in the slot. Metcalf plays out wide. Baldwin was great out of the slot and Seattle has no one to take his place.

Cobb averaged 15.1 yards a catch last season – a career-high – and had 53 receptions. His 55.2 yards a game were his most since 2014. But Cobb made just $2 million base salary plus a $2 million signing bonus in 2019. He outplayed his contract but he might not be able to stay in Dallas if he wants more money.

The Cowboys have major decisions to make this offseason as Amari Cooper, Dak Prescott and Byron Jones are all unrestricted free agents. Dallas might franchise tag one but clearly cannot do all three. And if Dallas signs only two of those players it is going to cost them a lot of money, maybe too much to keep Cobb.

Cobb has other reasons for possibly staying in Dallas. These include playing for his old coach Mike McCarthy who the Cowboys hired to be their new coach for 2020.

But if the Seahawks would offer Cobb $5 million there is a good chance they could at least get his attention. Plus, Cobb would see quite a few targets out of the pocket as well as playing with a top quarterback in Wilson. There is a lot for Cobb to like about the Seahawks and there is a lot about Cobb that Seattle should like.
