The Seahawks need a good third receiver. According to one site, Seattle will move up to draft Colorado’s Laviska Shenault.

Needs and wants. Nearly every NFL team worth paying to see has to make this decision every year before the NFL draft. What does a team need versus what it actually wants, either of which could make the team better. The Seahawks have to make this decision before the 2020 draft too. They need pass rushers. They want a good receiver probably.

According to NFL Mock‘s, though, the Seahawks will do something they never do since John Schneider became the general manager and Pete Carroll the head coach in 2010. That is, Seattle will trade up in the draft to take a player. The player Seattle will move up to grab is Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault.

(To be fair, NFL Mock’s made this prediction prior to it being known that Shenault would undergo surgery for a core injury he suffered during the 2019 season.)

Shenault can do a bit of everything. He can play out wide, he can line up at running back, he even returned a kick and that went for 54 yards. He isn’t the fastest guy in the world, but he is big. Think of him more in the mold of D.K. Metcalf than Tyler Lockett. But if Seattle is looking to get Russell Wilson another target at wideout, then Shenault might be the guy, even if he did have surgery this offseason.

Shenault is 6’2″ and 225 pounds. He only ran a 4.58 40 at the combine, but he is a bigger receiver and that speed is good enough. Plus, that is while he is still dealing with a core injury. Pete Carroll likes big guys, at running back, at receiver, at cornerback. Shenault seems like the perfect size for Carroll and his after-the-catch ability is Metcalf-like.

And the Seahawks might be catching a break with Shenault. Sure, they could move up to draft him, but this is a loaded draft class at receiver. Any hint of a problem and a receiver could fall. Just like Metcalf did, thankfully, in 2019. If Shenault falls into the second round where the Seahawks have two picks, one of them could go towards Shenault. Or maybe Seattle even trades up to take him anyway.
