The Seahawks released Tedric Thompson and Ed Dickson on Tuesday. Not unexpected moves but the timing was odd and that may be a good sign.

The Seahawks saved some money on Tuesday by releasing safety Tedric Thompson and tight end Ed Dickson. The moves create $5 million in cap space for the Seahawks so they now have about $13 million in cap space to play with. This amount, though, does include what Seattle will need to pay its draftees in April.

Still, Seattle normally makes a point of releasing players prior to free agency opening. They did this with Richard Sherman and others, mostly as a courtesy to those players so they would have a chance to sign with other teams prior to lots of money being spent. This means Seattle had a good reason for releasing Thompson and Dickson on the same day and when they did this late in free agency.

Hopefully, this means that the Seahawks are about to make a move or two to bring in an edge rusher or edge rushers. Jadeveon Clowney, of course, is still available to sign. And so is former Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen. One or both or neither of these guys might be about to be signed to Seattle’s 2020 roster, but there is hope after the releases of Dickson and Thompson.

There is also the chance that the Seahawks make a trade for Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. Ngakoue tweeted earlier on Tuesday that maybe it is time he and the Jaguars “move on” from each other.

Ngakoue is due to make $17.7 million in 2020 after being franchise-tagged by Jacksonville. But Jacksonville is looking for suitors and hopefully, Seattle in one of the teams look to make some kind of trade with Jaguars.

Next. 3 edge rushers Seahawks could sign to one-year deals. dark

I just think the Seahawks should trade for Ngakoue, sign Clowney, cut Justin Britt and sign Griffen too. Why be greedy, right? Let Seattle get these edge rushers in and get the 2020 Super Bowl party started.
