Besides not making big news by re-signing Jadeveon Clowney, the Seahawks have been busy making minor moves. Here are some of those.

This is not the article to read where the Seahawks have re-signed Jadeveon Clowney for three years and $48 million. That will be left to another day (if that happens). But Seattle has been signing and releasing some players that might have an impact on their 2020 roster. Here they be.

Seahawks rescind offer to receiver Malik Turner

Malik Turner was last seen dropping a pass thrown directly to him that hit him in the numbers by Russell Wilson that would have picked up a huge first down in January’s playoff game against the Packers. In that game against Green Bay, Wilson targeted Turner three times and Turner caught none of them. He needed to be let go.

Still, in March the Seahawks were planning on bringing back Turner for 2020 as an exclusive rights free agent. But then Seattle thought about it and decided on Tuesday, “Hmmm, maybe not.” Turner will now be a free agent, although if he doesn’t sign elsewhere Seattle might decide to bring him back and possibly place him on their practice squad.

Seahawks re-sign guard Jordan Simmons

Last week when I was far too lazy to talk about this with you, the Seahawks re-signed guard Jordan Simmons. Simmons missed all of 2019 with injury but was decent in limited time in 2018. He was also an exclusive rights free agent, like Turner, but Seattle decided not to give him tender. No one else picked up Simmons, though, so Seattle brought him back.

Simmons is now one of 8,298 offensive linemen currently on the Seattle roster, so the Seahawks will have to trim down. (OK, maybe that number is only 16 but it might as well be thousands higher. Seattle will end up with 8-10 offensive linemen by the start of the 2020 season.)

Seahawks bring back Neiko Thorpe

Neiko Thorpe should be a Seahawks lifer. And I don’t mean that he should just play for Seattle the rest of his career; He should play, then retire, then join the Seattle front office. Thorpe is the perfect Pete Carroll player, except for his lack of extreme high-level NFL ability. This means Thorpe will do anything to help his team win, play his guts out every play of every game and will wash dishes if needed.

Next. Seahawks trade for Ngakoue already!. dark

Thorpe isn’t the most skilled player in the league but adds value in character and his willingness to be a backup and a special teams demon. In other words, he is what every 12 wants to be. If Thorpe isn’t raising the 12th Man flag before some game after his career is over then I will eat my Seahawks-flavored hat.
