6th round and potential trades

Sixth round, pick 35 (214th overall) – Benito Jones, defensive tackle, Mississippi

This is my only pick that hasn’t changed for a couple of weeks ago when I did my Seahawks mock draft. I think Benito Jones completely fits what the Seahawks want from their interior defensive linemen. He is strong and should be able to help stop the run.

25 years ago Jones would have been taken higher than the sixth round. Teams were more focused on stopping the run then. But in 2020, the love goes to edge rushers and interior linemen than supply interior pressure. This isn’t Jones. But the early 2010s Seahawks were built with defensive tackles that could stuff the run and let the ends get pressure. Jones would have fitted beautifully on the 2013 and 2014 Seattle teams.

As it is, Jones is still valuable. He will be a steal in the sixth round.

Potential trades

A couple of days ago I wrote about three potential trades the Seahawks could make before the draft. Beyond that, the question is what moves Seattle will make during the draft. All I have said previously in this post goes a bit out the door. Seattle is going to make trades and pick up additional draft pieces.

Next. 3 trades Seahawks could make before the 2020 NFL draft. dark

There is the chance that Seattle will trade its first pick to the Jaguars for Yannick Ngakoue. Seattle might also trade with the Packers as Green Bay might move up to take a quarterback if they have the chance. This would mean the Seahawks move down slightly but also probably pick up another third round pick or so. But anybody is an option for Seattle. As we all know John Schneider has some surprises for 12s on draft days.
