Seattle was making moves on Sunday for a reason 12s are not sure of yet. In related Seahawks news, though, Seattle has an important deadline on Monday.

Monday might be a good day for Seahawks news. Following Sunday’s Seattle moves of releasing two starting offensive linemen in 2019, guard D.J. Fluker and center Justin Britt, Seattle now has $12 million more in cap space. This could be very important starting at 1 pm PT on Monday.

The reason for this is that this is the NFL’s deadline for unrestricted free agent signings to count in the formula for compensatory picks for the 2021 draft. Players that sign after 1 pm PT on Monday will not count toward their most previous team’s chance of getting a compensatory pick next year.

What this might mean for Seahawks news is that Seattle is free to sign another teams’ unrestricted free agent and not have a lesser chance of receiving compensatory picks next year. For instance, Seattle can sign edge rusher Everson Griffen and not have to worry about possibly losing a compensatory pick next year.

The Seahawks love compensatory picks and try to accumulate as many as normal, and then maybe trade those picks during the draft to get more picks. This year, the Seahawks actually traded their late-third round compensatory pick to move up in the draft and take Damien Lewis. Coincidentally enough, Seattle choosing Lewis probably means he is a day one starter in Seattle and made Fluker expendable.

Besides Griffen being possibly a free agent target for the Seahawks, edge rusher Markus Golden is also still available. Or the Seahawks have tried to free up enough room to add Golden and Everson. That would make 12s very happy, or it should.

Next. In the long run, Jordyn Brooks will have been a good pick. dark

The other side of this is there might be some bad Seahawks news because another team might be waiting to announce the signing of Jadeveon Clowney and therefore Seattle would not receive a compensatory pick for him leaving. But let’s hope for the best and that Seattle re-signs Clowney and some other pass rusher too.
