Seattle Seahawks: Predicting 3 surprise 2020 training camp stars
3. CB Quinton Dunbar
This offseason, the Seahawks sent a fifth-round pick to the Washington Redskins and got cornerback Quinton Dunbar in return. While the move was praised at the time, I don’t think everyone quite grasped the enormity of the addition.
Let me make this as clear as I can: Dunbar is a rising star.
Last year in his first season as a full-time starter, Dunbar was exceptional in coverage. On top of breaking up eight passes and intercepting another four, he allowed an impressive 68.4 passer rating when opposing quarterbacks threw his way. By the time the 2019 season had come to a close, Pro Football Focus had rated him as the second-best cover cornerback in the league.
Now that you know all of that, swapping a fifth-round pick for Dunbar seems like quite the bargain, right? Well, it was, and when training camp gets going, we’ll learn first-hand what the former undrafted wide receiver turned cornerback can do.
There were some concerns coming into the year about what the Seahawks would do across from Shaquill Griffin. With Tre Flowers and Dunbar in the picture, though, Seattle’s secondary should be in a strong position as we await the start of the 2020 campaign.
