DT Brandon Mebane

When it comes to the Seahawks making more roster moves, most of the talk surrounds the defensive end position. While that’s reasonable, there’s another position that could use a strong veteran presence heading into 2020: defensive tackle.

So why not bring back one of the franchise’s best (and most underrated) defensive tackles?

Yes, I’m referring to Brandon Mebane, who served in a key role for the Seattle defense from 2007-15. During that time, he helped the Seahawks win a Super Bowl while proving to be one of the NFL’s most reliable interior defenders. Although he was never a star pass rusher, he made his mark as a run stuffer and valuable locker room presence.

Over the last four years, he’s been serving as a starter for the Los Angeles Chargers. However, they let him go this offseason as they looked to create cap space and get younger (and healthier) along the defensive line.

Heading into 2020, the Seahawks have Jarran Reed, Poona Ford and not much else at defensive tackle. Their top backups are Demarcus Christmas, Bryan Mone and Cedrick Lattimore, which isn’t saying much. Adding a proven presence in the middle like Mebane, though, would provide more stability at defensive tackle this season.

Considering his age (35), it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the Seahawks could get Mebane for cheap. Quality veteran talent at a discount — sounds like a win to me.
