Duane Brown

Duane Brown is a rock. He is the best left tackle for the Seahawks since Walter Jones. But he will also be 35 years old when the 2020 season starts. So by my math, that makes him 36 years old when 2021 starts and that is getting a bit elder for an offensive lineman.

In 2019, Brown missed four games and seemed to be having more issues with health, if not production, later in the season. This might be a sign that Brown isn’t an answer at left tackle for two or three more seasons. Brown is a very good player but he is replaceable by 2021.

The Seahawks got a bit lucky with Brown’s contract, however. He is one of the better left tackles in the NFL and left tackles get paid bank. But in 2020, Brown will earn only $12.5 million and in 2021 $13 million. 2021 will be the last year of Brown’s current contract with the Seahawks.

What will ultimately decide Duane Brown’s future with the Seahawks beyond 2020 is his health. If Brown can play 14 to 16 games this coming season, he might be gold for 2021. But NFL players age and break down more easily, so if Brown can only play 10 games or so in 2020, then this might be his last year with the Seahawks.
