Alton Robinson

Seattle absolutely needs pass rushers and Alton Robinson was a decent one in college. But after a 10 sack junior season in 2018, Robinson digressed to just 4 sacks in his senior year. He is tall and quick but he was not well-coached in college and his number of pass-rushing moves is limited.

Robinson reminds me of a lighter Nazair Jones. Jones was a defensive lineman that Seattle chose in 2017 and showed some flashes in training camp and preseason in his rookie year. But Jones was injured often and never developed and Seattle cut him loose in May.

Robinson did stay relatively healthy in college but his potential development is what is the issue. Seattle probably sees Robinson as a long-term investment and may not be sure what they can get out of him in 2020. And that is part of Robinson’s issue.

If he comes into camp and preseason and does not contribute much, Seattle might try to get him to the practice squad and work on his technique. But another team would have a chance to pick up Robinson is this is the case. Robinson also has competition to make the team from fellow 2020 draftee Darrell Taylor and veteran Benson Mayowa. Seattle only has 53 active spots on the roster to fill and Robinson could find himself as an odd man out.
