B.J. Finney

Seattle acquired B.J. Finney this offseason and also released former starter Justin Britt. Finney was good in Pittsburgh but in limited starts. What he would bring to the Seahawks is a veteran at center. He can also play several positions.

But Seattle seems set at tackle with Duane Brown on the left and recently-signed Brandon Shell on the right. The Seahawks drafted Damien Lewis at guard and he could start week one. Mike Iupati will likely start at the other guard spot.

Finney finished as the 30th highest-graded center in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus. He was a much better pass blocker than run blocker, however. While Seattle will probably throw a bit more in 2020, they are still going to run a bunch. This means Seattle needs a center who can run-block well.

Joey Hunt started the last 8 games of the season for Seattle in 2019 after Britt got hurt. Hunt is too small to be a long-term answer at center but he also knows the Seahawks offense very well. Seattle might decide to take a chance on a guy they are more familiar with. This would mean keeping Hunt and Ethan Pocic at center and releasing Finney.

I do expect Finney to be the starter week one for Seattle. But these are the Seahawks we are talking about so anything is possible.
